Bike Beacon started because a D.C. rider wanted to know whether an e-bike would actually be waiting before he left for the gym.

Why Bike Beacon exists

Shared e-bikes are useful only when one is there. Bike Beacon turns a frustrating guess into a quick decision before you start walking.

What riders can do today

Anyone can search a D.C.-area address, intersection, or landmark, compare nearby live e-bike counts, and open walking directions without creating an account.

How automatic alerts work

Invited riders can choose days and a time for Bike Beacon to check automatically. Google Calendar is optional: riders who want event-aware checks can connect read-only access, and Bike Beacon never edits Calendar events.

What Bike Beacon keeps private

Public address searches are used for the current lookup and are not stored in product analytics. Bike Beacon does not sell personal data. Its privacy and SMS pages explain the limited data needed for optional alerts.

Who operates it

Bike Beacon is an independent rider tool operated by Dylan Elder. It is not sponsored by or affiliated with Capital Bikeshare.
